If there's one thing we discovered early on, it's that most Christians are deception illiterate. What we mean by that is that there is NOTHING being taught about deception in our Christian colleges and seminaries. I know, because I went through 9 years of college and seminary, receiving a bachelor's in Bible and Religion and a Master of Divinity. Not one word was mentioned about deception in the church, and there certainly was nothing that equipped me to detect deceptive people. In fact, I had no idea that there was such a thing as "Christians" masquerading as real Christians in order to abuse innocent people. I left with two very good degrees and was completely deception illiterate. Unfortunately, experience had to become my teacher. As long as we keep failing to talk and learn about deception techniques, we will always be deception illiterate. And THIS is what abusers are banking on. It's how they are so easily able to deceive, manipulate, and rob the innocence of their victims. In this episode, we talk about ways to overcome deception illiteracy, and contrast Jesus' teaching method with our method today. Our hope is to turn this culture around and start teaching people the mechanics behind deception so that they can learn to detect it.
