Hundreds of employees at the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) have been laid off despite rising concerns about understaffing, air traffic safety and a pair of high profile plane crashes. The administration says those fired were still in their probationary period and the cuts are part of the attempt to rein in federal spending.
