In this episode, we bring back Dan Edlebeck, the CEO of Exidio, the development team that powers the decentralized VPN project, Sentinel. You’ll also hear from a special guest, who is somewhat of a celebrity in Russia after gaining notoriety as a hacktivist who built tools that Russian citizens used to combat censorship from the Russian govt. Aleksandr Litreev is now the CEO of Solar Labs, and previously built Red Button and VeeVPN. Red Button is an app used to notify your lawyer if you are ever arrested on protest, and VeeVPN is a VPN service that thwarted the Russian govt when it was attempting to block Telegram. It’s always exciting to have guests on who help tie the ideas we talk about on this podcast back to the real world. Until decentralized apps are battle-tested and used for social good out in the real world, much of what is built in the cryptosphere tend to live in the abstract. We cover the implications of big tech’s control over speech in the digital world, effectively flowing over to impede on freedom of speech in meatspace. What’s more, Exidio and Solar Labs are working together to bring a commercial grade router to market that will enable individuals like you and me to “mine” DVPN, HNS, and HNT tokens by providing internet bandwidth to the Sentinel DVPN network.
