Necessity is the mother of invention... On this episode we talk with Sook-Yin Lee and Dylan Gamble about their new film; 'Death and Sickness' hitting the CBC Gem streaming service on November 20th. This is film is special...because not only are they the stars, the writers, the directors...they did EVERYTHING themselves while on lockdown earlier this year. It's the story of Sook-Yin and Dylan, two lonely and messed up strangers who recently met at a karaoke bar, decide to lockdown together in a tiny house during a global pandemic. They try to adapt to an upended world but as chaos rages on, they lose their grasp. When Sook-Yin communicates with the dead and tries to merge Dylan with her deceased lover, he scrambles to assert himself. Pushed to their limits, they dive into imaginative worlds with Dylan leading Sook-Yin through The Enchanted Arena to retrieve her lost soul. 'Death and Sickness' unfolds in everyday events and psychedelic and sci-fi escapes. A bittersweet rumination on love and mortality that grieves the loss of the world as we know it and steps shakily into an unsettling and exhilarating future. It's a little out there and might not be for everyone, but it also really captures the psyche of society having their day to day routines get stripped from them. We talk about blurring the line of truth and fiction on this film, the creative challenge of having to get creative and the burning question where if there's only two people on an entire film shoot...who did the catering?
