In May 2021, Germany agreed to fund €1.1 billion worth of Namibian projects over a 30-year period after officially recognizing the Herero-Nama genocide. Many see it as a substitute for Germany paying reparations for the atrocities of its colonial past. However, not everyone in Namibia is happy with the form of compensation.
